Reports to: Supervising Teacher
General Summary: A specialized paraprofessional assists the classroom teacher in providing a safe learning environment where children’s individual needs are met.
Essential Functions:
- Implements IEP and Behavior Plan under the supervision of the teacher.
- Assists the teacher with the learning activities of students in both group and 1-on-1 settings.
- Assists students with health and self-help needs, including but not limited to, feeding, toileting, positioning, and dressing. This may require operating specialized equipment.
- Assists students in developing social and emotional skills.
- Assists with the supervision of students during emergency drills, assemblies, recess, field trips, specials, and general education.
- Participates in general and job specific training as determined by the supervising teacher and principal.
- Supervises students in instructional activities at the direction of the teacher, including Math, English, fine motor skills, and handwriting.
- Communicates with the supervising teacher on student progress and/or special needs of students.
- Assists teacher with recording student progress data.
- Assists with bus duty in the mornings and afternoons, helping load and unload students.
- Ability to lift 50 pounds or more.
- Performs other reasonably related duties as assigned by supervisor.
- Maintains confidentiality as defined within the policy and procedure manual.
Qualifications:
- Education – High School Diploma (minimum), 60 college credits/Associate’s Degree/ability to pass the ParaPro Assessment
- Experience – Evidence of experience working with students
- Required: Hepatitis B Vaccine (paid for by school) and Crisis Prevention Intervention training (paid for by school)
Length of Position: 36 weeks (for the school year)
