Substitute Teacher - Automotive Class
Reports to: Building Principal
General Summary:
In the absence of the regular automotive classroom teacher, the substitute teacher will help students learn the subject matter and/or skills required for scheduled lessons. The substitute will provide meaningful instruction for the assigned automotive classroom, ensuring that students continue to engage in practical and theoretical automotive studies.
Essential Functions:
- Carry out a program of study prescribed in the lesson plans left by the automotive classroom teacher, ensuring that both theoretical and hands-on automotive skills are covered.
- Create a classroom and shop environment conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity, interests, and safety requirements of the students.
- Guide the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and objectives as indicated in the lesson plans, focusing on automotive technology, safety procedures, and practical application.
- Employ instructional methods and materials that are most appropriate for meeting lesson objectives, including automotive tools, equipment, and digital resources.
- Maintain a neat, orderly, and safe classroom and shop area, ensuring that all tools and equipment are properly stored and that safety protocols are strictly followed.
- Take attendance in accordance with school procedures and ensure students are properly accounted for in both classroom and shop settings.
- Indicate to students the basic expectations for behavior and safety in the automotive class, in accordance with WCS policies.
- Be familiar with emergency evacuation routes specific to the automotive classroom and shop areas.
- Know procedures for referring students who are disciplinary or safety problems to appropriate staff.
- May perform duties usually required of the absent teacher, such as bus duty, hall monitoring, or other duties assigned by the building principal.
Qualifications:
- Substitute Teaching Permit
- Knowledge or experience in automotive technology or related fields is preferred.
- Ability to maintain effective classroom and shop management, ensuring a safe learning environment.
- Ability to follow oral and written directions, particularly in the context of automotive instruction and safety protocols.
Length of Contract: On call/as needed
