Substitute Teacher

 

Reports to: Building Principal

 

General Summary: In the absence of regular classroom teacher to help students to learn subject matter and/or skills that are required for scheduled lessons and to provide meaningful instruction for assigned classrooms.  When no sub is required, this position will serve as a special education paraprofessional wherever needed.

 

Essential Functions:

• Arrive at 7:30 a.m. and conclude the day at 3:10 p.m.
• Report to the front office each morning to find out sub assignment by 7:30 a.m.
• Carry out a program of study prescribed in the lesson plans left by the classroom teacher 
• Create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students
• Guide the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and objectives as indicated in the lesson plans 
• Employ instructional methods and materials that are most appropriate for meeting lesson objectives 
• Maintain a neat and orderly classroom.
• Take attendance in accordance with school procedures
• Indicate to students the basic expectations for behavior in the class in accordance with WCS policies 
• Know emergency evacuation routes for classroom assigned
• Know procedures for referring students who are disciplinary problems
• May perform duties usually required of absent teacher such as bus duty, hall monitoring or other duties assigned by building principal 
• This person will attend faculty meetings and PLC Mondays to stay fully informed.

Qualifications:

• Substitute Teaching Permit 
• Ability to maintain effective classroom management
• Ability to follow oral and written directions

 

Length of Contract: 185 days

Position Type: Non-Exempt
