Reports to: Director of Adult Education
General Summary: The bilingual student / parent liaison position facilitates communication and interaction between language minority parents and the school community.
Essential Functions:
- Facilitates the communication of language minority students and parents with Adult Education personnel by interpreting for them when they visit the program and/or schedule appointments.
- Assists Director and other appropriate program personnel by interpreting for limited English proficient students and parents with concerns regarding program needs.
- Promotes students and their families to attend open house activities, aids in registration and communicates needs for potential students.
- Provides workshops and/or trainings to help parents help parents understand the academic programs, vocational opportunities and community services.
- Refers needs of students and parents to the Adult Education Staff as appropriate.
- Reports to IVY Tech for night classes.
- Keeps accurate logs of family visits, phone calls and time spent with language minority families
- Participates in staff development activities as recommended by the Adult Education Director.
- Other duties as assigned by supervisor(s)
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma/GED
- Fluently bilingual in spoken and written Spanish and English
- Ability to work in a multi-task oriented environment.
- Excellent phone skills and communication.
- Excellent literacy skills.
- Experience with working on computer systems and Microsoft office products.
- Experienced in and able to function successfully in cross-cultural settings.
- Self-motivated and able to prioritize and organize responsibilities.
Length of Contract: 185 days
Hours: 10 Hours a week
Position Type: Non-Exempt
