General Summary:  The Social Emotional Learning (SEL) coordinator is critical for the successful implementation of district-wide K-12 curriculum, methodology, and instructional practices to increase student and educator learning as part of the Lilly Endowment grant. The Coordinator will work to build and deepen a positive school climate and culture by training on how to understand and manage emotions, set and achieving positive goals, feelings and showing empathy for others, establishing and maintaining positive relationships, and making responsible decisions. The Coordinator will be responsible for the direct support to school staff on SEL programming including standards, staff development, curriculum, and assessment.

 

Essential Functions:

  • Coordinator must develop and maintain the respect and confidence of their colleagues.
  • Must possess the skills, knowledge and sensitivities for facilitating discussion and decision-making as well as insight for integrating best practices in guidance/SEL curriculum across all grade levels and subject areas.
  • Demonstrates an appreciation for the richness and diversity of learning and the importance of SEL skills in all curricular areas to both broaden the methods of instruction and the modes of assessment.
  • Exhibits the qualities of enthusiasm, flexibility, perseverance, and punctuality.
  • Must be a change agent and a risk taker willing and able to help restructure guidance resources to best meet the needs of staff, students, community and parents.
  • Coordinates the development, implementation and evaluation of the SEL curriculum.
    • Embraces Professional Learning Communities as a framework for school change and improvement.
    • Serves as a member of the guidance staff collaborative team and advocating for SEL education across all employee groups (Classified and Certified), grade levels and content areas in the school corporation.
    • Develops, maintains, and strives to continuously improve district wide practices and instruction with SEL woven into existing core curriculum.
    • Collaborates with school administrators, technology coordinator, CAOs, guidance, department directors and other school system personnel in implementing the district SEL curriculum and best practices to increase student results.
    • Actively plans and facilitates collaboration time to develop a culture where discussion and work focus on SEL data, teaching, and student learning.
  • Creates and works collaboratively with other departments for the integration of the district wide social and emotional learning education and professional development aligned with the district’s strategic plan.
    • Attends, develops, and conducts professional development training sessions.
    • Assists in grant writing opportunities.
  • Ensures an effective communication with all employee groups and stakeholders.
  • Coordinates and hosts the yearly community forum on SEL.
  • Provides recommendations on the reallocation of financial resources to expand and enhance guidance and SEL services K-12 within WCS.
  • Development of a 4-year plan with strategic planning tracker.
  • Assess and verifies short-term and long-term goals of the SEL program. Uses data to make decisions and adjustments to the SEL program.
  • Promotes the integration of SEL with IN State Standards.
  • Ensures the successful implementation of Lilly Grant requirements and strategic plan needs.
    • Serves as an active leader of a strategic plan initiative team focused on SEL.
    • Works collaboratively with business department and grant coordinator to ensure fidelity of Lilly grant.
    • Collaboratively evaluates data to identify preemptive interventions.
    • Provides data presentations when requested.
    • Assists in any evaluative reports due to Lilly or external evaluators.
  • Performs other reasonably related duties as assigned by supervisor.

Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree (equivalent) or licensing in counseling, psychology, education or related field.
  • Knowledge of the mission, core values, and strategies of Warsaw Community Schools
  • Knowledge of effective SEL research
  • Understanding of SEL curriculum
  • Knowledge of effective instructional practices
  • Understanding of collaborative learning teams
  • Knowledge of developmental standards
  • Knowledge of educational neuro-science
  • Understanding of research-based professional development
  • Understanding of intercultural competence
  • Ability to understand and maintain program finances within an assigned budget and grant requirements

Length of Position: 200 Days

Position Type: Exempt

Grant Funded:  Temporary Contract Position (3 years)
