Reports to: Building Principal

 

General Summary: To provide services to students with behavior and mental health needs.  Providing supervision and support to school-based programs designed to provide appropriate behavioral strategies for students experiencing behavior challenges.

 

Essential Functions:

  • RTI: Participate in Response to Intervention process for behavioral interventions resource and support
  • Coordinate referrals and transitions for the placement process for incoming students.

Attend School Support Team

  • Supports behavioral data to make recommendations regarding appropriate Functional Behavioral Assessments and Behavioral Intervention Plans.
  • Attends team-based problem-solving processes and meetings or meets one-on-one with teachers.
  • Observes students in the classroom to develop a better understanding of their needs.
  • Ability to provide coaching, skills training, and other support to teachers and staff working with students with behavioral concerns.
  • Serves as a liaison for the school with parents and community agencies, and medical practitioners.
  • Acts a member of the Crisis Team and works with others to establish crisis intervention strategies and procedures for identified students.
  • Supports classroom behaviors by teaching social/coping skills within the classroom.
  • Assess the need for Functional Behavior Assessment and Behavior Intervention Plan including the development of effective data collection systems.
  • Maintain confidentiality and comply with all pertinent federal, state, and district regulations and policies.
  • Performs risk assessments using the Columbia screener and alerts DCS to any student harm situations they discover.
  • Conducts social skills groups/lunch groups and supports one-on-one with students when needed.
  • Performs other reasonably related duties as may be assigned by the building principal or the Director of Special Services.

 

Knowledge and Ability:

  • Understanding of behavior management techniques and methods.
  • Extensive knowledge of positive behavior interventions and supports.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of behavior intervention programs for students with severe behavioral challenges by implementing individualized programs.
  • Ability to manage and prioritize multiple activities to meet deadlines under time constraints
  • Ability to communicate orally and in writing sufficient to express ideas, thoughts and instruction clearly to staff, patrons and students
  • Ability to collaborate effectively on inter- and intra-agency levels
  • Knowledge and experience with computer software and systems
  • Exhibits patience, courtesy, respect, ethical conduct and tact when dealing with all people
  • Ability to drive a car
  • Coordinates with BBBS/mentor group to line up mentorships for students in need
  • Other duties as assigned by direct supervisor

 

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor Degree preferred in special education or related mental health field
  • 2 years’ experience in education or related mental health fields.
  • Ability to collect and use data to make decisions regarding student progress
  • Ability to use strategies to intervene with student behavior
  • Ability to work with students, staff, and parents 

 

Length of Contract: 180 days
