GENERAL SUMMARY: A custodian performs general custodial duties and assists in maintaining the building and grounds, thereby enabling staff and students to utilize them to the fullest.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Performs general custodial duties in offices, classrooms, restrooms, hallways, locker rooms, and other scheduled work areas. Duties include, but not limited to, cleaning, sweeping, vacuuming, mopping, dusting, washing, floor scrubbing, and gathering and disposal of trash.
- May perform general lawncare duties outside including, but not limited to, mowing – with push or riding mower, using electric or gas weed trimmer, and pulling weeds manually.
- Stooping, bending, pushing, pulling, and lifting of various items.
- Performs summer cleaning duties.
- Secures the building each day and assists with deliveries to the school.
- Assists with the setup, supervision, and clean up for athletic events and other extra-curricular activities.
- Performs related duties as may be assigned by the Head Custodian.
- Performs other reasonably related duties as assigned by supervisor.
- Maintains confidentiality as defined within the policy and procedure manual.
- Respectful with coworkers, supervisor, and other school staff. Follows behavior guidelines as WCS employee.
- Able to be flexible and move to 1st shift hours during school breaks, including summer.
QUALIFICATIONS:
In order to perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty in a satisfactory manner. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
- Experience Required: High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
- Skills to operate hand and powered equipment used in housekeeping maintenance along with other custodial functions.
- Knowledge of methods and use of materials, tools, and equipment used in general housekeeping maintenance functions while applying standards for safe use of equipment.
- Ability to stand/walk or sit/ride for prolonged periods and frequently climb, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, push/pull, and reach with arms. The employee must be able to talk/hear effectively, work independently with minimal supervision, perform a variety of tasks, understand and carry out oral and written instructions. The employee must possess the desire to work cooperatively and collaboratively with co-workers, demonstrate initiative, be flexible as well as provide attention to detail. Significant physical abilities include lifting/carrying/pushing/pulling, reaching/handling/ near visual acuity/depth perception.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Must be able to demonstrate good judgment in decision making and a desire to seek proper counsel when in doubt.

5. Lifting: Medium Work: Lift or move 50 pounds occasionally, up to 25 pounds frequently with occasional sitting and frequent standing/walking.
6. Environmental Exposure: a. May be exposed to sun, rain, wind, or snow b. May be exposed to extreme heat or cold c. May be exposed to confined spaces d. May be exposed to heights of more than 6 feet e. May be exposed to dust and dirt f. May be exposed to chemically treated fluid
