Reports to: Building Principal

 

General Summary:  This is position is to cover a leave.  Beginning the week of 08/23 to observe current art teacher.  Full-time beginning week of 08/30.  This is a split position 3 days at Washington Elementary and 2 days at Claypool Elementary.

 

Essential Functions:

  • Prepares meaningful lesson plans to provide a balanced program of instruction, demonstration, and working time.
  • Stimulates students' attitudes toward an interest in art by providing an artistic environment for classes.
  • Evaluates each student's artistic growth, performance, achievement, and maintains records as required.
  • Teaches the proper use of art tools, equipment, and materials; demonstrates techniques in activities (drawing, painting, and ceramics).
  • Maintains professional competence by way of in-services provided by the corporation or other professional growth activities related to art.
  • Utilizes students' work for current displays for hallways, bulletin boards, and special programs; displays their work in the classroom.
  • Encourages students' sense of responsibility for having necessary supplies.
  • Identifies student needs, communicates and cooperates with staff members, parents, students in assessing and assisting students to solve health, attitude, progress, and learning problems.
  • Responsible for safeguarding school property, art tools, and equipment.
  • Assists administrator in ordering art supplies (tools, instructional aids, and books).
  • Performs other reasonably-related duties as may be assigned by the principal.

 

 

Knowledge and Ability

  • Ability to manage and prioritize multiple activities to meet deadlines under time constraints
  • Ability to communicate orally and in writing sufficient to express ideas, thoughts and instruction clearly to staff, patrons and students
  • Ability to supervise and evaluate staff, coordinate work and control assignments. Comprehensive knowledge of principles and practices of personnel administration, including but not limited to, management principles and practices, conflict resolution, team building with staff.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively on inter- and intra-agency levels.
  • Ability to understand and maintain program finances within an assigned budget.
  • Knowledge and experience with computer software and systems.
  • Exhibits patience, courtesy, respect, ethical conduct and tact when dealing with all people

 

 

Qualifications:

  • Education- Bachelor’s Degree (minimum)
  • Certification or Licensure- Valid Indiana Teaching License and the ability to learn, organize and implement an instructional program designed to educate, inspire and challenge students K-6.
  • Ability to collect and use data to make decisions regarding student progress
  • Ability to work with students, staff, and parents

 

 

Length of Contract: 185 days
