Scope of Responsibilities: To provide services and curriculum to assist both students who are blind or low vision in acquiring skills necessary for the learning environment.
Reports To: Director of Special Services, Building Principals
Responsibilities:
1. Serves on the multidisciplinary team which determines eligibility for special education categories.
2. Designs, implements and coordinates the Individual Education Plans for students wo are blind or low vision; monitors and reports student progress.
3. Serves as an itinerant teacher for eligible students and provides instruction and training in:
- Orientation and Mobility
- Corrective Mannerism
- Reading and Writing Skills
- Braille Skills
- Organizational Skills
- Daily Living Skills
4. Assists other teachers, parents, and students by providing both written and verbal consultative services and provides inservices to teachers, parents, and students.
5. Provides appropriate instructional resources for students as well as classroom teachers; provides adaptive/assistive devices for students.
6. Involves parents and/or guardians in the student's educational program.
7. Maintains appropriate student records, files and reports.
8. Adapts and/or transcribes materials for students.
9. May provide services and/or materials to other school districts within the North Central Indiana Special Education Cooperative.
10. Performas other resasonbly-related duties as may be assigned by the Director of Special Services.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Science Degree
- Indiana Visual Impairment Teaching License
