Title: Specialized 1:1 Nurse

Qualifications: Licensed Practical Nurse/ Registered Nurse

Experience or certification in tracheostomy care and g-tube feedings preferred

Student/people oriented

Experience working with students with special needs

Reports to: Supervising Registered Nurse, Nurse Coordinator, and Director of Special Services

Job Goal: To maintain students’ health status, thereby enabling them to fully benefit from educational experiences.

Performance Responsibilities:

1. Assesses, identifies, monitors, and implements health care plan for selected student with special health needs.
2. Maintains current health records for selected student.
3. Advises and collaborates with teachers, school nurse, and parents on health matters particularly relative to health and safety issues for selected student.
4. Serves as liaison between school, home, and the community for selected student.
5. Administers first aid, necessary medical care, and emergency procedures in accordance with established procedures.
6. Provides teacher orientations and in-service in techniques for observing student for signs of health problems.
7. Is willing to assist other school nurses on any school day that their particular student is not in attendance.
8. Performs other reasonably related duties as may be assigned by the nurse coordinator and/or other appropriate administrators.
9. Documents care on appropriate flow sheets and/or in CareDox HER.

Terms of Employment: Number of days of employment and salary as established by the WCS School Board.

Evaluation: According to the approved special services evaluation program.
