Scope of Responsibilities:  

To maintain and/or improve the students' health status, thereby enabling them to fully benefit from the educational experiences

 

Essential Responsibilities:

(These essential responsibilities are those the individual must be able to perform unaided or with the assistance of reasonable accommodation.)  Essential Functions of this position are, but not limited to, the following:

 

Assumes authority, for the care of a student who has suffered an injury or illness.

 

Identifies, assesses, monitors, and refers health needs of students.

 

Administers medication per physician orders and contacts physicians when needed.

 

Properly secures medications.

 

Carries out all medical procedures within the school.

 

Adequate nursing documentation on appropriate clinic forms and in CareDox EHR.

 

Reports to parents, school personnel, physicians, clinics, and other agencies on school medical matters.

 

Contacts homes of children regarding health concerns when referred by principals.

 

Conducts school health services, including immunizations, administering medications, and conducting vision screenings if needed.

 

Advises teachers on health matters regarding student health concerns.

Maintains current cumulative health records for all students.

 

Prepares data for reports for the Nurse Coordinator.

 

Completes student injury reports and gives to appropriate school personnel.

 

Adheres to confidentiality concerning privileged information.

 

Adheres to Universal Precautions in all situations.

 

Performs other reasonably-related duties as may be assigned by the nurse coordinator and/or administrators.

 

Knowledge and Ability 

 

Has knowledge of the policies, procedures, and activities of Warsaw Community Schools and supervisory practices as they pertain to the duties of the school nurse.

 

Is able to assemble information and make good written reports and documents in a concise, clear, and effective manner.

 

Has good organizational, management, interpersonal, and technical skills.

 

 Is able to use good judgment and discretion in handling emergency situations, deciding on procedures to be implemented, setting priorities, maintaining standards of care, and resolving problems.

 

Is able to effectively communicate and interact with supervisors, faculty, and students.

 

Exhibits patience, courtesy, respect, ethical conduct, and tact when dealing with all people.

 

Job Requirements:

  • General: Individuals must possess the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed or are able to explain and demonstrate that they can perform the essential responsibilities of the job, with or without reasonable accommodations, in order to safely perform the essential responsibilities of the job.
  • Physical:  Should be able to perform the following and similar physical demands in completing work tasks:  walking, climbing, stooping, reaching, pushing, feeling, crouching, lifting, pulling, standing, kneeling, carrying, handling, talking, hearing, seeing, sitting, and keyboarding.  Able to regularly lift up to 30 lbs and 100 lbs with assistance.
  • Environmental:  Must be able to handle exposure to dirt, odors, dust, wetness/humidity, heat, vibration, cold, sudden temperature changes, noise, darkness or poor lighting, fumes, elevated workplaces, fire, mechanical and electrical hazards.
  • Mental:  Must be able to reason, analyze, prioritize, conceptualize, make judgments, and solve problems.
  •  Professional Conduct:  Must be able to establish and maintain relationships of respect, trust, confidentiality, collaboration, and cooperation with students, staff members, corporation and/or board members.  Employees who may be involved in a situation that could result in an uncomfortable work environment should be willing to resolve the issue with the party/parties involved.  If this does not resolve the situation, then the chain of command should be followed in order to address the situation

Qualifications

Required:

            Registered Nurse with a current Indiana license

            Experienced nurse preferred

            Student/people-oriented

                           Current CPR/AED certification

                           Dependable level of attendance/ availability

 

Desired:

 Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Nursing
