Reports to: Band Director and Assistant Principal
General Summary: The Color Guard Instructor coordinates a guard program that effectively compliments and enhances the overall marching band. The Color Guard Instructor evaluates performers’ skills and works closely with the Marching Band Director and the other staff members to develop the overall visual program. The Color Guard Instructor also coordinates the winter guard program, including the development of a winter program, staging, choreography, and instruction of staging and choreography.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Teach and clean dance/flag/rifle choreography
- Communicate with Band Director and other band staff to create a cohesive fall program
- Select and design effective warm-up strategies that address performance needs
- Recruit and audition new and future members
- Contribute creative ideas in staff team meetings to enhance elements of fall show
- Assist with student records and equipment inventory as needed
- Design the winter guard program
- Teach and clean winter choreography and staging
- Oversee any additional color guard staffing
Qualifications
Education – High school diploma
Experience in color guard/winter guard performance
Experience in color guard/winter guard instruction – preferred
Must be available for band camp and rehearsals
