General Summary: The Pool Operator assumes responsibility for the safe operations of and daily use of the Warsaw Community Pool.

 

Essential Functions:

  • Operates, repairs, maintains, and cleans mechanical equipment for pool operation including water filtration and chemical purification systems, intake and outlet valves, chemical feeders, pumps, compressors, seals, vacuum equipment, and chlorine metering device, monitor pool boiler system, and air handling system.
  • Regulates water temperature and levels, chemical levels, and determines and implements preventative maintenance for pool operation.
  • Participate in major repairs (scope of and inspection of work), and ensure non-mechanical pool equipment meets code specifications (starting blocks, diving board, flags, lane lines, etc.) and is maintained.
  • Clean steel surfaces in the pool area (stainless steel diving board rails, lifeguard chairs, hand rails, flag poles, and the starting blocks) and all gutters. This must be done no less than once per month and more regularly if needed.
  • Ensure facility assessments are done regularly and concerns and repairs are addressed through creation of work orders, and provide suggestions to supervisor.
  • Monitor building operations and ensure sanitation codes are met and toxic chemicals are safely stored.
  • Oversee shutdown for annual and emergency maintenance.
  • Daily testing (7 days weekly) of water and bump starting filtration system, and provide water samples weekly for testing to laboratory (Element Labs, Warsaw).
  • Prepare and maintain reports (Daily Operation Maintenance Report, ISDH Swimming Pool Record of Operation, Work Orders, Requisitions, and Inventory.
  • Ensure chemicals are stocked and on hand for pool operations, and order chemicals when necessary (Spears, Williams Supply, Leisure Pools).
  • Ensure work space and chemical storage areas are clean and orderly.
  • Keep walls, windows, doors, cabinets, display cases, and other surfaces clean and graffiti free.
  • Empty waste cans (deck, offices, locker rooms, and natatorium hallway), and vacuum entry way, offices, and viewing stands daily during WCHS Swim & Diving season, and at least weekly during the off season.
  • Assist Pool Instructors with providing ice on a daily basis, and assist with instructor’s storage and equipment needs as needed.
  • Set up for each WCHS swim meet and tournament event (*specific needs to be provided).
  • Be present at the conclusion of WCHS swim meets and tournament events to assist with or coordinate event tear down. Empty trash and clean surfaces (locker room, hallway, restrooms, deck) following events.  Lock facility after the event.
  • Adjust work schedule according to needs (during swim seasons earlier start time due to daily bump start and testing prior to team’s morning practice is necessary; bump start and test requires 30 minutes and 60 minutes scheduled in the event chemicals need added).
  • Must be able to work while sitting, standing, walking, climbing ladders, squatting, kneeling, pushing, pulling, twisting, bending, and lifting up to 50 pounds multiple times per shift.
  • Must be able to work both indoors and outdoors with possible exposure to hot or cold temperatures for extended periods of time; possible exposure to distracting/uncomfortable noise levels, and risk of bodily injury from mechanical parts, electricity, etc., and possible exposure to fumes, odors, etc. that may affect respiration and skin.
  • Gather loaner swim suits and towels used by school classes, and wash, dry, fold, and store these daily.
  • Performs other reasonably related duties as assigned by supervisor.
  • Maintain confidentiality as defined by the WCS policy and procedure manual.
  • Check the pool deck for trash, dirt, hair, bobby pins, or any items seen laying on the deck daily, and remove this debris as seen.
  • Sweep and use the deck scrubber once per week on the pool deck.
  • Clean locker rooms once per week out of swim season. During swim season, locker room needs cleaned daily.
    • Cleaning includes spraying shower and locker room with ______, picking up and cleaning all items left in the locker room, cleaning toilets in locker room and in entry hallway daily, cleaning sinks and mirrors weekly, check and refill if necessary paper towels and toilet paper daily.
    • Use robots to clean the pool and dive well (twice weekly during WCHS Swim & Dive Season and once weekly in the off season).

Qualifications:

  • CPR Certified.
  • Pool Operation certification is required.
  • High School diploma.
  • Previous pool operations experience preferred.
  • Ability to use basic hand tools, lubrication equipment, meters, electric hand tools, water testing kits, and standard custodial and maintenance equipment.
  • Ability to use a computer and basic programs, and ability to comprehend written text and express self in writing.

 

Length of Contract: 52 weeks
