General Summary: Provides leadership and direction for the district instrumental music/concert band and jazz programs that meets curricular objective. Provides guidance and direction to co-curricular after school musical performances, concerts, and competitions for the school. Provides students with opportunities to develop musicianship and specific performance skills through solo and ensemble work and other co-curricular opportunities.
Essential Functions:
- Responsible for all activities associated with instrumental music of the Band Class and smaller groups. This includes the formation, planning/organization, scheduling, budgeting, rehearsing, performing, and evaluation of these activities.
- Plans and manages all fiscal budgeting requirements on an annual basis.
- Works directly with building and central office administration to ensure financial monies are appropriated in accordance with district policy, state and federal law.
- Organize, rehearsing and conducting the Advanced Concert Band and the Tigers’ Pride Marching Band;
- Supervision of solos and ensembles for contests, concerts, and community obligations.
- Directs the Jazz Band(s) and the Pep Band(s), solos and ensembles;
- Oversees the Assistant Band Director and their responsibilities.
- Works collaborative with all district schools regarding band programs.
- Plans, organizes, rehearses and performs a minimum of two public programs each school year.
- Teach Music Theory and Harmony classes and/or Music Appreciation and/or General Music where applicable;
- Work with the other Instrumental directors to plan and coordinate other areas that may affect the program, which may include: Beginning Band recruitment, curriculum, performances, Extra-curricular groups (Winter Guard, Winter Percussion, etc.) and activities throughout the program, Seventh grade to high school recruitment, budget, equipment, facilities and staffing;
- Coordinates and manages the inventory and maintenance of all departmental property including instruments, music library, equipment, and uniforms.
- Work with the other instrumental directors to recruit band members, develop band members, and sustain the program.
- Encourages, develops, and maintains a working relationship with students, staff members, parents, and patrons.
- Any other reasonable additional duties as assigned by Administrators.
Qualifications:
- License in Fine Arts: Instrumental & General Music 5-12, P-12
- Knowledge of the overall operation of an instrumental music program
- Percussion experience or emphasis preferred
- Strong communication, public relations and interpersonal skills
Length of Contract: 185 days
