ATHLETIC DIRECTOR 

Reports to: High School Principal

 

General Summary: The Athletic Director assumes responsibility for the development and wellness of all athletic programs at Warsaw Community High School. This involves leadership, accountability, team development, and vision setting with the coaches and students.  

 

Essential Functions:

  • Responsible for the leadership and oversight of all athletic programs, including selection, retention, and evaluation of the coaching staff.
  • Committed to Professional Learning Communities for school improvement.
  • Responsible to take part in speaking and leading at specific student and community functions as required or requested by the Warsaw Community High School Principal and/or Superintendent.
  • Responsible to see that all athletic programs and events are run in a professional and responsible manner, adhering to IHSAA Bylaws.
  • Responsible to develop and carry out fundraising initiatives within athletics including oversight of individual sports’ camps.
  • Interprets School Board Policies to provide guidance for the school and coaches under supervision. Informs coaches of rules and related changes/expectations.
  • Responsible to recruit, interview, and evaluate all new candidates for original appointments and works with the head coach to recommend assistant coaches.
  • Provides positive, constructive, and developmental feedback to coaches as needed. Implements progressive disciplinary procedures when appropriate.
  • Investigates and assists in the resolution of conflicts within the Athletic Department, including staff, coaches, and student-athletes; follows up with athletes who have been disciplined and maintains communication and teamwork in initiating discipline.
  • Promotes, advertises, and markets for all sporting events.
  • Works with IHSAA directly for the coordination of tournament series events.
  • Responsible for professional event preparation, ensuring student athlete and spectator safety.
  • Maintains an awareness of facilities and facility needs necessary to operate, and communicates these needs to supervisors and administrators.
  • Performs other reasonably related duties as assigned by supervisor.
  • Maintains confidentiality as defined within the policy and procedure manual.

Qualifications:

  • Education – Bachelor’s Degree (minimum)
  • Certification or Licensure – Valid Indiana Secondary Administrative certification. Certification in one of the following areas (preferred but not required): Registered Athletic Administrator (RAA), Certified Athletic Administrators (CAA), Certified Master Athletic Administrator (CMAA).
  • Experience – Five or more years of secondary teaching and/or coaching experience. Previous experience as a high school athletic director (preferred but not required).
  • Knowledge – Working knowledge of athletic programs, scheduling, rules, and regulations of the IHSAA.

Length of Contract: 12 months

Position Type: Exempt
