Family & Consumer Science Teacher

Reports to: Principal - WACC

General Summary: To develop in each student an awareness of the importance of good home environment as a basis for satisfactory home and family living; to motivate each student to acquire competency, knowledge, and skills relating to child development, clothing-textiles, consumer education, relationships, foods-nutrition, home arts, and Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America.

Essential Functions:

• Teaches concepts and skills in foods and nutrition, clothing-textiles, home arts, relationships, child development, consumer education, and related occupations.
• Instructs students in citizenship and basic subject matter specified in state law, administrative regulations, and procedures of the school district.
• Organizes class activities so that preparation, instruction, or laboratory work and clean-up activities can be accomplished within the allotted class time and space.
• Demonstrates knowledge and skill techniques in Family and Consumer Science and prepares appropriate instructional aids and display materials to enhance learning.
• Provides individualized instruction as necessary to adapt the curriculum to the individual needs of students.
• Instructs students in the use, care, and safe operation of household equipment and
• Communicates to the students the types of behaviors needed to provide an orderly, productive environment in the classroom.
• Evaluates each student's progress in concepts and skills of the subject.
• Selects and requisitions books, instructional aids and equipment; maintaining inventory records; purchasing groceries and other supplies as authorized; and requesting repair of equipment as necessary.
• Communicates with parents and school counselors on students' progress.
• Supervises students during the working day as assigned by appropriate administrative
• Participates in curriculum and other developmental programs.
• Participates in faculty committees and the sponsorship of student activities.
• Maintains current career education information for students interested in Family and Consumer Science related careers.
• Maintains professional competency through in-service education activities provided by the school district and/or self-selected professional and community growth activities.
• Performs other reasonably-related duties as may be assigned by the principal.

Qualifications:

• Indiana Vocational Teaching License in Family and Consumer Science
• Excellent organizational and classroom management skills

Length of Contract: 185 days

Position Type: Non-Exempt
